Where to Refuel in Kits After a Workout

There’s nothing better than that post-sweat glow — except maybe pairing it with a strong coffee or a smoothie that hits just right. And if you’re already out, why not turn recovery into a hangout? Kitsilano has no shortage of cafés that fit the active, outdoorsy lifestyle — think nourishing food, cozy vibes, and plenty of good coffee. Here are some of my go-to spots to recharge after a workout or run along the seawall.

1. Body Energy Club (Smoothie Bar)

You would never know this supplement store has a smoothie bar hidden inside! It’s my go-to when I’ve missed breakfast or after a workout when I want a smoothie packed with protein, creatine, and BECs to help with recovery. There are many potential supplements one can request and too many flavours to count. My favourite is Berry Delicious! Heads up! It’s a grab-and-go situation. Luckily there are wonderful parks nearby or you can go for a stroll along the Arbutus Greenway.

2. Aphrodite’s Organic Café

If comfort food could also be called fuel, this would be it. Aphrodite’s keeps it organic and local, with everything from hearty breakfast bowls to gluten-free pancakes. Pair it with a coffee or smoothie and settle in — it’s the kind of spot where brunch naturally stretches into an afternoon catch-up.

3. Viva Fine Foods & Bakery

Steps from Kits Beach, Viva is laid-back and welcoming, with friendly service and seriously good coffee. Balance your post-run pastry with a protein-packed sandwich or a muffin — or don’t, because sometimes you just need that chocolate croissant. Either way, it’s a perfect refuel before heading down to the water.

4. Kokomo

Bright, tropical, and plant-based, Kokomo is the definition of post-sweat self-care. Their acai bowls and vegan wraps are packed with colour (and nutrients), and the smoothies feel like vacation in a cup. This one’s for when you want to leave your workout feeling both strong and light.

5. Pallet Coffee Roasters

For the coffee purists. Pallet is known for roasting some of the best beans in the city, and their café makes it easy to pair your brew with something light — like avocado toast or a loafs. Spacious, casual, and a good reset before heading into the rest of your day.

6. TurF

TurF is basically Kits’ community hub for movement, food, and connection. Their menu covers it all — smoothies, toasts, sandwiches, and hot remedy drinks — with a coffee program that matches. The vibe is relaxed but buzzing, which makes it one of the best places to stretch out your post-class high. The vibe is also lends well to those who want to bring their laptops, nurse a latte, and get some work done.

7. Sweet Barrel Creamery

Yes, you earned gelato after that workout. Sweet Barrel mixes gourmet gelato and sorbets with legit coffee, so you can cool off with a scoop or sip an espresso (or both). Cozy and unpretentious, it’s a fun stop after an especially tough session.

8. Platform 7

Part rustic train station, part serious coffee shop — Platform 7 is for the days when you want to slow down and savour your post-sweat coffee. Go for a pour-over or espresso and add a pastry if you’re hungry. The atmosphere makes it easy to linger and enjoy.

The Takeaway

Kits is built for movement, but it’s also built for recovery. Whether you’re craving protein, plants, or just a killer cup of coffee, these spots make it easy to refuel without losing that post-workout high. Next time you finish a run or a gym session, skip the quick protein bar and meet a friend at one of these cafés instead — your body (and your taste buds) will thank you.
